Second-edition colour paperbacks of Linux Command-Line Tips Tricks and Unlikely Stories

First printed book to have syntax-highlighted code in FULL COLOUR looks wunderbar

I got my first copy of the full-colour second-edition paperback of Linux Command-Line Tips & Tricks this week from a local retailer. The price had dropped to ₹770. It looks wonderful, marvelous and beautiful. The font choices were just perfect — Source Serif Pro for paragraph text and Prestige for code blocks. They look great in both paperback and ebook form. I have increased the ebook price to ₹200 and $5 because the paperback is eminently more preferable as a desktop reference.

I also got the colour paperback for Unlikely Stories. This was ordered on Amazon US but came from the UK. The shipping cost was greater than the discounted book price. Because of the dark cover and glossy finish, photos seem unflattering. It looks fine in your hand.

Book browsing animation

For my ffplay blog post, I played the video from which the frames for this animation was taken. My ffplay spin enhances the colours quite a bit but the video initially shows snatches of the default Linux video player playing the same video without enhancing anything.

The inner-page colour illustrations also look great. The full-colour second edition sticker emblem did not work as well as it did in the Linux book so I have removed it. Newer prints will have tiny boxed text in its place.

Book cover

I had also ordered two copies of 2020 Fresh Clean Jokes For Kids from Amazon India the price had dropped to ₹447.

I did not get the non-colour grayscale version of Unlikely Stories even though the price had dropped to ₹660. Draft2Digital insists it cannot handle maroon shades on the cover. I already have wunderbar colour edition so there is no need to get the black-n-white edition. Those who do not want a pretty woman on the cover can chose the grayscale version. The only reason I wanted to buy it was the alpaca.
