How To Shave Like A Pro
The developed world has already moved to disposable multi-blade razors
and shaving cream in cans. In India, we are slowly leaving behind
safety razors and shaving creams. The reasons for this change can be pinned
down to glamorous advertisements, ignorance and/or laziness.
In this article, I will show you how to do it the right way and also
clear some misconceptions along the way.
- Shave outdoors in broad daylight. Or, ensure that your face is well
lit on the mirror.
- Do not let family members or the TV to distract you while you are
shaving.
- Put your all shaving articles within easy reach.
- A mug of hot water mixed with a few teaspoons of Dettol anti-septic
solution.
- A metal or plastic safety razor.
- A safety blade.
- A tube of shaving cream.
- A shaving brush.
- After-shave lotion.
- A clean towel.
- Put the blade in the razor and dip it in the mug of hot water. This
kills most germs that might be sticking to the equipment.
- Add the shaving brush to the mug for the same reason.
- Wash your face with tap water and leave it moist.
- Apply cream on your face and brush up a good amount of lather. The more
time you spend on this the better. This step is very important. If you do
not spend enough time on this, your hair is not going to become soft.
- Hold the razor at an angle so that only cutting edge of the blade touches
your chin. The blade or the razor should not touch your skin.
- Slide the razor along the direction that hair grows but maintain the
correct angle of the blade to the hair. If the angle is correct and you
have done enough lathering, then the hair on your face will offer no
resistance to the blade and all of them will get razed. If the angle is
wrong or you have not lathered enough, then the uneven surface of the hair
follicles
will get caught on the blade. The hairs will then start tugging at your
skin. You will be tempted to use force here. You will end up removing the
hairs all right but a thin layer of skin will be lost here and there.
Your chin may feel itchy afterwards.
The blade will also become blunt. It is because of this mistake that most
guys feel they have extremely hard hair and unwittingly opt for a single-use
multiple-blade razor. If you follow this procedure correctly, a safety
will come for several days and even more than a week. Using a safety
razor is safe for the environment and will also save you money.
- When you are done shaving, wash your face in cold water and dry your face
using the towel.
- Apply after-shave lotion to your face and let it dry before washing it
off.
- Wash the safety blade, safety razor, and the shaving brush
and dry them thouroghly. This is important. Some people are not careful
that this is done and end up with infection or an allergic reaction.
- Store your shaving articles in a plastic box. Do not leave moisture
in the box. This can rust the blades. For the sake of hygeine, do not
store your nail cutters in the shaving box.
